Miwa Shoda

Ms. Shoda is admitted to practice law in Japan (bengoshi, 2004) (currently inactive), and the state bars of California (2009) and New York (2009).

Ms. Shoda began her career as bengoshi at Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, one of the top firms in Tokyo, Japan, in 2004. She handled a wide range of international cases and matters there, with particular emphasis on antitrust issues and a variety of intellectual property issues including trademarks and patents.

Ms. Shoda started practicing in the U.S. in 2008 as a visiting attorney at Kirkland & Ellis LLP Los Angeles office, where she represented Japanese clients in a well-publicized antitrust case and patent litigation and negotiation, among others.

Ms. Shoda joined Jenner & Block LLP Los Angeles office in October 2009. Since then, she handles various legal matters which Japanese companies face in the U.S., including antitrust, corporate, intellectual property, and litigation. Ms. Shoda represents and gives advice to many Japanese companies supported by her extensive practicing experience and legal education both in Japan and the U.S. as well as her knowledge of Japanese business culture and language skills as a native Japanese. She has significant experience representing Japanese companies in both litigation and transaction in the U.S.

Ms. Shoda was born and raised in Japan, and has legal education both in Japan and the U.S. (University of Chicago Law School, LL.M., University of Tokyo Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, Master of Laws, and University of Tokyo, Bachelor of Laws).

Her native language is Japanese, and her English is professional-level fluency.
