Gary Anthony Varnavides

My name is Adam. I am a 63-year-old, disabled man. In 2016, the U.S. government placed me on SSDI benefits for various medical conditions from which I suffer from. On 4/9/26, I received a phone call from Mr. Gary Varnavides. He asked to represent me on a 37.5% contingency in a securities fraud case ...that I was a victim of. Mr. Varnavides asked me to provide him various documents related to my case, which I immediately complied. Mr. Varnavides sent me his retainer agreement on 4/23/26, which I forwarded to my personal attorney, who specializes in attorney/client contract law. My attorney felt that there were some problems with Mr. Varnavides retainer agreement and advised me to ask Mr. Varnavides to make some minor changes to it. On 4/26/25, I emailed Mr. Varnavides asking him to make those changes. On 5/1/26, Mr. Varnavides agreed to make those changes and assured me that he would send me his revised retainer agreement within a couple of days. I did not receive Mr. Varnavides retainer agreement and emailed him on 5/8, 5/14, and 5/21, asking for an update. On 5/22/26, Mr. Varnavides finally responded and began backtracking. On 6/1/26, Mr. Varnavides emailed me letting me know that he would represent me only if I paid him $450 per hour as opposed to a 37.5% contingency which Mr. Varnavides offered to me in our initial phone call and in his retainer agreement. I brought that information to my attorney who feels that Mr. Varnavides is exhibiting attorney misconduct. My attorney urged me to file a complaint against Mr. Varnavides with the California Bar Association along with alerting all of Mr. Varnavides current and potential clients about his behavior by posting on various attorney review websites. Furthermore, and worse for me is that I turned down other attorneys offers to represent me after speaking with Mr. Varnavides on 4/9. And, some of the medical conditions I suffer from have worsened because of Mr. Varnavides actions, which my doctors will corroborate if necessary.
