Lauren Elizabeth Sylvia Horwitz

Lauren Horwitz is a trial attorney and partner at BD&J, PC in its wrongful death and catastrophic injury practice group. She has recovered over $300 million on behalf of her clients to date and has spent nearly 200 days in trial. Lauren represents plaintiffs in state and federal court, and has argued before the California Court of Appeal. A skilled litigator and compassionate advocate, Lauren believes that every client deserves the best representation in all aspects of their case.

Lauren spends a large portion of her time litigating interstate and intrastate trucking cases, and her clients have prevailed against defendants of every stripe from individuals to multi-national corporate conglomerates. Another focus of Lauren’s practice is on premises liability cases, and in particular, building fire cases. She believes that utility companies and property owners should be held accountable when their buildings do not meet industry safety standards. Those harmed by fires often seek Lauren’s representation because of her dedication to the pursuit of justice. She also handles product liability cases and bad-faith insurance litigation.

One of Lauren’s strongest assets is her ability to collect valuable evidence that opposing parties try to hide. She has spoken to audiences of attorneys on several occasions regarding thorough trial preparation, effective cross examinations of expert witnesses, using discovery to gain tactical advantages, effective presentation of evidence at trial, jury selection, and the contributions of women in the courtroom. In addition to advocating for individual plaintiffs, she has experience litigating mass torts and class actions.

Lauren is a member of the CAALA Board of Governors. Lauren was awarded the Presidential Award in 2019 and then again in 2022 for her continuing contributions to CAALA. In 2025, she was the Chair of the Vegas Convention Committee, and responsible for organizing dozens of panels and over 125 speakers for the convention. She was also a three-time Finalist for CAALA’s Rising Star Award. She was named a Super Lawyer in 2022 – 2026, and a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2016 – 2020.

She has published articles on many topics, including laying the foundation for evidence at trial and increasing case value by preparing for appeal throughout litigation. Lauren regularly speaks at continuing education events throughout the year. While a student at Loyola Law School, Lauren was the Chief Note and Comment Editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review where she published an article on the effects of anti-consumer practices in the credit industry.

She is also a member of the Consumers Attorneys of California and the American Association for Justice. She externed for the Honorable Richard L. Fruin of the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2010.
