Christopher E. Ng is the Managing Partner of Gibbs Giden Locher Turner Senet & Wittbrodt LLP. Chris represents companies in construction, business, commercial and real estate transactions and disputes, with particular experience in construction law, commercial credit, creditors’ rights, contracting, risk management and dispute resolution.
Chris is admitted to practice in California, Texas and the District of Columbia, as well as all four United States District Courts in California. He is also an educator, frequent speaker and published author whose work appears in legal and industry publications and treatises nationwide.
Chris has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® for 2026 and 2027, including recognition in the 2027 edition for Construction Law and Litigation - Construction. He has been selected to Southern California Super Lawyers® from 2017-2026, following prior Rising Stars® recognition in 2009-2012 and 2015. His other professional recognition includes being named a “Legal Visionary” by the Los Angeles Times, a “Leader of Influence” by the Los Angeles Business Journal, and receiving the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law Alumni Award for Diversity and Belonging.
Chris is nationally recognized in construction law and regularly writes and contributes to publications and treatises for construction industry professionals and attorneys. His publication work includes California Construction Law published by Wolters Kluwer, Acret’s California Mechanics Lien Laws published by BNi, California Continuing Education of the Bar publications, Commercial Law World, ENR Engineering News-Record, Business Credit publications and materials for the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law.
In addition to practicing law, Chris has taught business law at California State University, Northridge for more than twenty years, teaching students in both the undergraduate business program at the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics and CSUN’s Graduate Business Program, including MBA students. He previously taught business law and ethics at Pepperdine University. Chris is also a frequent speaker for legal, construction and commercial-credit organizations, including the American Bar Association, National Association of Credit Management, Credit Management Association and other industry groups.
Since 2013, Chris has served on the Division 9 Steering Committee of the ABA Forum on Construction Law, focusing primarily on issues affecting subcontractors, specialty trade contractors and material suppliers. He has also served on the Forum’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee since 2015.
Construction Law
Chris represents owners, general contractors, subcontractors, specialty trade contractors, material suppliers, manufacturers and design professionals in connection with private and public construction projects.
His work includes contract drafting and negotiation, change orders, payment disputes, indemnity and risk transfer, contractor licensing, mechanics liens, stop payment notices, payment bonds, prompt payment claims and other statutory and contractual remedies. He also represents clients in construction litigation, arbitration and mediation.
The projects involved range from commercial and industrial facilities to government projects, universities and schools, hospitals, hotels, retail developments, office buildings, restaurants, energy projects and major infrastructure.
Business and Commercial Law
Chris advises businesses throughout the business life cycle on contracting, risk management and dispute resolution. His work includes drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, resolving claims before litigation, prosecuting and defending business disputes, commercial collections, restructuring debt, enforcing judgments and protecting creditors’ rights when customers become insolvent or file bankruptcy.
A significant part of Chris’s practice involves representing manufacturers, distributors and suppliers that sell goods and services on commercial credit.
He regularly advises clients regarding credit applications and agreements, terms and conditions, the Uniform Commercial Code, the “battle of the forms,” guarantees, shipping and risk-of-loss issues, collections, insolvency, bankruptcy and preference claims.
Chris’s commercial clients include businesses involved in steel, electrical and lighting products, lumber and building materials, roofing, mechanical and plumbing products, solar and energy products, petroleum products, apparel, electronic components, composite materials and rental equipment.
Chris also played a supporting role in the successful 2025 legislation amending California Civil Code § to establish California’s first statutory definition of “trade credit” and clarify that qualifying trade credit is excluded from the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Teaching, Writing and Industry Education
Chris has served as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at California State University, Northridge since 2005. He teaches in both the undergraduate business program at the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics and CSUN’s Graduate Business Program, including its MBA curriculum. Subjects he has taught include contracts, commercial law, negotiation, civil procedure, alternative dispute resolution, remedies, agency and employment law, negligence and intentional torts.
He regularly writes and speaks on construction law, commercial credit, creditors’ rights, contracting, insolvency and bankruptcy issues for lawyers, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and credit professionals.
