Andrew Joseph Cavazos

As an attorney at Poulos & Coates LLP, Andrew J. Cavazos focuses primarily on complex medical malpractice litigation. He is licensed to practice in New Mexico and Texas.

Andrew previously worked at several prominent personal injury firms, where he specialized in wrongful death, catastrophic injury, commercial motor vehicle collision, and workplace accident litigation. He has extensive experience in all facets of the litigation and appeals processes, with over a dozen trials and appeals to his name.

Throughout the years, Andrew has developed a unique litigation style which entails zealous advocacy for his clients, cordiality among his peers, and a strategic application of pressure on the opposing party when it matters most. Through this thoughtful balance of aggressiveness, professionalism, and creativity, Andrew has achieved multiple six and seven-figure verdicts/settlements for his clients.

After becoming a licensed attorney, Andrew quickly garnered respect among his peers as a top civil litigator. He has been selected by the National Trial Lawyers as a “Top 40 under 40” civil plaintiffs attorney for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021, and has also been selected by his peers as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for the years 2020 and 2021, which is a designation reserved for the top 2.5% of attorneys 40 years old and under. In 2021, the El Paso Young Lawyers Association and El Paso Bar Association further honored Andrew as “The Most Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year”.

In 2018, Andrew was selected by the State Bar of Texas to be a student of the prestigious LeadershipSBOT Academy, which is an honor bestowed upon approximately twenty young lawyers per year, for the purpose of fostering him as a future leader in the legal community. After graduating from LeadershipSBOT in 2019, Andrew was then selected by the State Bar of Texas to serve as a committee member on the committee that crafts the Texas Pattern Jury Charge for Products Liability and Medical Malpractice. He still serves on that committee to this day.

During his career, Andrew has also served his local community in several prominent positions. From 2017 to present, Andrew served the El Paso Young Lawyers Association as a Board Member, a President-Elect, and its President. Andrew has further served as and a Board Member for the El Paso Bar Association (2020), and is an active member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, and the Texas Young Lawyers Association.

Andrew previously attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied political sciences and business administration. He later attended Texas Tech University School of Law, where he served as President of the Hispanic Law Students Association, Director of Communications for the Board of Barristers, a dean-appointed Student Ambassador, a Student Bar Association officer, the American Bar Association schoolwide representative, and a dean-appointed student representative on the Dean’s Committees for Academic Advancement and Diversity.
