As the officer was walking toward the mini-van, a w ... oman (defendant) got into her (another) vehicle and started to drive away, hitting the officer (plaintiff) and causing severe injuries that required multiple surgeries and ultimately he was forced to retire from the NYC police department.

Decedent was a 35 y/o Hispanic female who was pregnant with her third child. The first two had been delivered by C-Section She had a history of Sickle Cell Anemia. She was admitted to Lenox Hill for ... an elective C-Section. The section and was done without incident. In the recovery room she became tachycardic and hypotensive. She was intubated and taken to the OR for an exploratory laparotomy to attempt to control her bleeding. Because the bleeding was not timely recognized, she developed DIC (Disseminated intravascular coagulation) or decreased ability to control bleeding causing her death.
