Bankruptcy of John Smith
Mar 18, 2009OUTCOME: Successful Discharge of Debts in Bankruptcy
John Smith (real name is confidential) went through a bad divorce a year ago. Then he lost his job. He was left with debt from his divorce, and then his credit card debt got even higher when he was u ... nemployed. He was barely making the minimum payments, but had to let a few go so he could afford his regular monthly bills. He got served with a lawsuit from one of his credit cards. His phone was ringing constantly, because creditors from debts he could not pay were calling for their money. He was stressed out, and could not take it anymore. He called us at the Reister Law Firm. We set up an appointment for him right away. We met with him, set up a payment plan for his lawyers fees, and had him direct all the harassing phone calls to us. We answered his lawsuit to prevent a judgment, and then began working on his bankruptcy case. We filed his case 4 days after he met with us. The phone calls stopped. We met him at the meeting of creditors, which went smooth because no creditors showed up (which is usually what happens in our cases). 60 days after that, he got his Discharge. We answered all the questions that he had throughout the process. 60 days after his discharge, we pulled his credit reports (free of charge) to make sure all the creditors had been removed. We continue to do this every year for him to make sure none of the discharged debts have been illegally sold to collection agencies. John received his Fresh Start. He is now able to save for his retirement and and lives his life free from the stress of creditors.
