Susan Helen Defreitas

Ms. Defreitas was my attorney in 2012/2013. She knows nothing of domestic violence, in fact, I had a conversation with her as to whether the withholding of medical care actually fit into domestic violence. On the one hand, she said my spouse was the "worst case she had ever seen", yet gave me no good... advice regarding obtaining a restraining order. As it happened, my spouse undermined my lease prior to court, I was sent into flight to another town to put distance between us. Ms. Defreitas claimed directly to me that she had once been in a controlling marriage so I would have imagined she might have predicted his next move better and seen my marriage clearly for what it was. Domestic violence. It is not a dispute that needs to occurr between a client and the representing attorney. To me it was not. The first order of business would have been to secure my housing situation, not direct me to visit CU or DU to obtain information about furthering my education, particularly since there was custody of a minor child involved. I was not aware I was married to a true psychopath, capable of disabling my vehicle, starving me, closing our joint accounts. Ms. Defreitas used the phrase in an attempt at mediation, "I had to prostitute myself to him". Out of all the words in the world to use..."prostitute"? Not a word worthy of the education necessary to obtain a law degree, nor indicative of a high degree of professionalism. My encounter with this attorney was disastrous. She does not listen.
