As a federal prosecutor in McAllen, Texas, I prosecuted numerous human trafficking cases involving alien smuggling organizations. One case in particular that was egregious involved one of the defendan ... ts welcoming the poor immigrants being smuggled by saying "Welcome to Hell" where he then proceeded to lock hundreds of people up into a small structure that was unfit for humans without access to water, food, or ventilation and caused many to become ill and injured in their attempt to escape confinement.
