Good lawyers do more than simply recite legal principles.  A lawyer must have a thorough understanding of the client’s business objectives so that he or she may provide business advice guided by his or her knowledge of legal principles.  By so doing, the lawyer contributes meaningfully to the clients’ formulation of strategies for commercial success.

Science and engineering remain my first love, and I consider it a joy to work with scientists and entrepreneurs and the technologies and products they seek to exploit.  I see my role as helping their businesses grow by providing guidance in the formulation and deployment of sound IP-protection strategies, by negotiating insightful licensing and technology-transfer arrangements, and by advising on organization and funding of the enterprise.

Being mindful of the critical role that technology protection and commercialization play in a company’s success, I appreciate that each legal transaction may be uniquely tied to a company’s long-term success. To guide my efforts in those transactions, I draw on the experience of several hundred technology licenses involving, for example, pharmaceuticals, bio-sciences, software, and electronic imaging.  It is gratifying to see these products come to market and witness their impact on lives.
