I do not recommend Michael Schloss for any high-conflict custody or relocation cases. His office is extremely limited—just him and one assistant—and they are not equipped to handle the complexity or urgency that these cases require. I retained Mr. Schloss for a relocation hearing after being told I ...had a very good chance of success. My daughter has a serious medical condition that makes it unsafe for her to remain in extreme heat. I had a letter from her cardiologist recommending the move. Despite this, we lost. The opposing party’s legal team pushed a false and damaging narrative about me, and Mr. Schloss failed to challenge any of it. Their portrayal of me went unchecked and ultimately influenced the outcome. Over the course of nine months, I paid around $25,000 and received very little meaningful support. The legal advice I was given often backfired and advantaged the other side. The opposing party had more financial resources and a full legal team. They filed repeated motions, seemingly to deplete my legal funds, and Mr. Schloss made no effort to push back. The opposing attorney submitted multiple letters full of lies and personal attacks. These were simply forwarded to me—often by his assistant—with no explanation, context, or reassurance. I spent hours in tears trying to reach someone in the office for help, with no response. When I finally did reach the assistant, she was cold, dismissive, and spoke to me in a demeaning tone. Rather than showing empathy or support during an incredibly emotional time, she added to the stress and made me feel belittled and alone. I also provided Mr. Schloss with detailed documentation of the father’s past behavior and the impact it had on our daughter—none of which was ever presented to the court. Harmful decisions were allowed to stand without opposition. A temporary visitation change that was supposed to be short-term ended up lasting much longer, and I was denied time with my daughter on Mother’s Day. In another instance, the opposing side suddenly requested to take my daughter out of state for two weeks—with less than 24 hours’ notice—even though she was clearly distressed and unwilling. Mr. Schloss said I had no choice, even though this was never presented to a judge. No action was taken to protect her or advocate for her wishes. I had to do my own research, find expert witnesses, and try to navigate the legal system alone. Mr. Schloss was difficult to understand due to frequent mumbling and was often unreachable when I needed guidance. The lack of communication, support, and preparation throughout the case left me feeling completely abandoned. This was the most painful and difficult year of my life. I desperately needed an attorney who would advocate for me and my daughter—but I was left to fight on my own. The emotional damage that occurred during this case was real and lasting, and I will always regret trusting this office to handle something so important. If you’re facing a custody or relocation battle, especially involving your child’s health or safety, I strongly encourage you to find a firm with the experience, resources, and compassion to truly support and represent you.
