Not honest, poor communication, took my money and did not provide services

I’m unable to recommend this attorney due to his lack of communication, failing to provide services for which he was paid in full for, and repeatedly lying about refunding my money. Jul 25, 2021 I contacted Attorney Chris Barr to represent my daughter and I in a harassment case against someone tha...t lives in his area of service. He indicated he could help me; we initially spoke on Jul 26th. He asked for copies of the harassing events, which took place primarily via text and FB messenger, which I provided right away. He explained that the process entailed filing the documents, having the individual served, and setting a court date. He quoted the fees “including the filing fees” were $1100 and it would all take “2-3” days” since we were seeking an order of protection. I sent the entire payment immediately via cash app. He collected some more info, such as address and description of individual, over the next day or so. July 28th Attorney Barr said he was awaiting confirmation from court. July 29th Asked for update as my daughter received more harassing text messages in the interim and the individual had physically attacked another person and made death threats. Received no response. July 30th Called Attorney Barr, he indicated he would call back in about 1.5 hours. About 3 hours later he called and said he had no updates. Aug 5th After not hearing from Attorney Barr, I asked for another update. He said he would have one that afternoon but again I didn’t hear back from him. Aug 6th Contacted Attorney Barr and expressed my displeasure at the lack of communication, info, and progress. He apologized and stated a hearing was scheduled for 11am on Aug 12th. Aug 12th Contacted Attorney Barr to confirm hearing was still on and he stated it was canceled and we were awaiting a new date. Aug 17th After not hearing back for several days, contacted Attorney Barr about new hearing date. He said he would find out the next day, but again I didn’t hear back from him. Aug 23rd I contacted Attorney Barr after no communication for many days and asked for a refund, minus the document prep fees and serving fees. It was never verified if the individual was ever served. I also found out that AZ does not charge for filing fees for this type of case although he specifically quoted this in his fees. He said he would call the next day to discuss. Aug 24th Attorney Barr indicated he is awaiting correspondence from court. Aug 25th Attorney Barr arranged a time to speak with me by phone for Aug 27th. Aug 27th Attorney Barr does not call at appointment time. I wait 5 hours after missed appointment to contact him. He apologized and said I will receive a full refund in “1-2 weeks” as he has to clear with his accountant. Sep 13th Over 2 weeks had passed and I ask for refund status. He says it will be a “couple of days” as his accountant is still trying to clear the funds. Sep 20th Ask for update on refund. No response. Sep 21st Ask for an update again. He says he will let me know that afternoon but I don’t hear back from him. Again. Sep 23rd Attorney Barr contacts me and said he was (still) getting funds cleared. Sep 26 I ask if I would have my refund by the end of Sep and Attorney Barr says “yes” Oct 1st (8 pm AZ time) I have not received my funds nor have I heard from him. Worst, my daughter and I did not receive justice or protection; the individual had no consequences and we are open to be subjected to further harassment. Chris Barr is a classmate of mine and it was very difficult to make the decision to write this review here and on other review sites. That is the primary reason why I allowed him to string me along for so long. As a business owner myself, I know it doesn’t take over a month to clear funds from your business account. I know and value the importance of communication, honesty, providing accurate info, and doing what you say you’re going to do, when you say you are going to do it.
