Emma Kirsten Wittmann

Emma K. Wittmann is an Associate Attorney at The Attorneys For Freedom Law Firm, where her practice is devoted exclusively to representing individuals involved in self-defense incidents. A seasoned Arizona criminal defense attorney, Emma has built her career defending clients accused of serious misdemeanor and felony offenses in both state and federal courts. Today, she applies that extensive criminal defense experience exclusively to protecting responsible citizens who have lawfully defended themselves or others.

A native Arizonan, Emma was raised in Mesa, where she graduated at the top of her class from Red Mountain High School before attending Arizona State University. Her lifelong ties to Arizona, combined with years of defending clients throughout the state, give her a deep understanding of Arizona's courts, communities, and legal landscape.

Since being admitted to the Arizona Bar in 2020, Emma has represented hundreds of clients throughout Arizona in a wide variety of criminal matters. Her practice has included everything from DUI and drug offenses to violent crimes, firearms cases, white-collar offenses, and homicide-related prosecutions. She has successfully guided clients through every stage of the criminal justice process, from investigation through trial preparation and resolution, while appearing in courts across Arizona and in federal court.

This broad criminal defense background provides Emma with a unique perspective when defending self-defense cases. She understands how prosecutors evaluate violent crime allegations, how law enforcement conducts investigations, and how to build compelling defenses rooted in constitutional protections and the facts surrounding a client's lawful use of force. Whether a client is facing allegations arising from a defensive shooting or another justified use of force, Emma is committed to providing strategic advocacy and unwavering representation.

Emma's commitment to defending constitutional freedoms extends beyond the courtroom. During law school, she concentrated much of her legal research on the Second Amendment, firearm regulations, and the constitutional principles that safeguard individual liberties. She also developed her courtroom advocacy through Trial Advocacy and spent two years as a Law Clerk and Arizona Rule 38 Certified Limited Practice Student with The Attorneys For Freedom Law Firm. Working alongside the firm's attorneys, she drafted motions, prepared cases, and attended court proceedings, experiences that solidified her passion for criminal defense and ultimately led her to begin her legal career with the firm.

Emma earned her Juris Doctor from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University after attending on a full-tuition scholarship and receiving a CALI Excellence for the Future Award. Before law school, she graduated from Arizona State University's W. P. Carey School of Business with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Law and a minor in Dance, completing her undergraduate degree in just three and a half years while earning multiple academic scholarships.

While attending law school, Emma also represented children in Arizona's foster care system through the Immigration Clinic, advocating in immigration and dependency proceedings involving Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, naturalization through adoption, and related matters. She also completed an internship with the City of Mesa, where she gained experience in employment law, civil litigation, construction litigation, real estate, and municipal liability defense.

Outside the office, Emma enjoys hiking, exploring Arizona on road trips, country swing dancing, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog.
