Attorney Emma K. Whincup was raised in Mesa, Arizona. She graduated from Red Mountain High School at the top of her class.
Emma attended W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University, where she was awarded the Academic Merit Award Scholarship, New American University Scholar-Dean’s Award Scholarship, and ASU Solutions Grant. She completed her degree in 3 ½ years, earning a B.A. in Business Law, with a minor in Dance.
Emma went on to pursue her passion of becoming an Attorney. She earned a full-tuition scholarship upon starting law school and also earned a CALI award during her first year.
During law school, Emma worked in the immigration clinic, representing children in the foster system in need of immigration services. Emma advocated on behalf of neglected children in immigration and state dependency proceedings, gaining experience filing Immigration petitions for Special Juvenile Status, naturalization through adoption, and retrieval of immigration documents and records to establish immigration status. She was successful in proving the immigration status of a foster child to the Court, leading to the child’s long-awaited adoption by her foster parents.
Emma completed an internship with the City of Mesa, where she worked in a wide variety of practice areas including employment, real estate, construction litigation, civil litigation, and liability defense.
Emma spent her second and third year of law school as a Law Clerk and Rule 38 Limited Practice Certified Student for Attorneys For Freedom. Emma worked diligently alongside the attorneys drafting various motions and attending court hearings. During this time, she gained invaluable experience, exposure, and training in criminal defense that goes unparalleled.
Emma also participated in Trial Advocacy, attaining strong courtroom skills and techniques through numerous mock trials. Her passion for freedom and the second amendment guided her to conduct her graduate writing on firearm rights and regulations. She spent extensive time delving into research on firearm regulations at the local, state, and federal levels, advocating for the separation of powers and 2nd amendment rights.
Emma graduated from Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, Arizona State University in May 2020, receiving her Juris Doctorate. She thereafter was admitted to the Arizona State Bar to practice law as a licensed attorney.
In her free time, Emma enjoys hiking, road trips around the beautiful state of Arizona, country swing dancing, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog.
Emma considered her time clerking at Attorneys For Freedom one of the best experiences of her academic career and could not imagine starting her career as an attorney anywhere else. Emma is excited to call Attorneys For Freedom her home.
