Client

We went to Drew for an easement issue on a private lane. We hired him to draft a letter. He said it would be his hourly rate of 200 for the letter. When he sent us the draft, we had to rewrite a large portion of it. The header on the letter was from a previous client. His work was marginal and what w...e had already learned on "findlaw" gave us better answers than Drew could provide. The letter, after our edits, was fine. However, we ended up paying $75 for the initial consult, $220 for the letter (that is hard to believe it took longer than 30-45 minutes to draft), and we also had two $60 charges (one to answer an email asking if the neighbors had responded since the deadline had passed--he answered no and to give them a few more days; and the other to "review" the response from the neighbors which was a handwritten note saying a response from an attorned would be coming in a couple weeks). We were floored that he charged $120 for two things that only took a couple minutes each. If $60 is his "minimum" charge, okay, but then maybe only charge for one. Overall, a just-okay letter and advice that we could find online, cost us $415. Not worth it. I would pass on using this attorney.

Ali: I am sorry that our legal representation relationship did not work out to your expectations and that you are dissatisfied with the work performed for you. I set a high standard for myself and take client satisfaction very seriously and welcome the opportunity to address your issues personally. After reading your review, I believe it is appropriate to respond and clarify. You retained the firm to address and resolve a complicated legal issue regarding obtaining an easement to your landlocked property -- an issue that you had been unable to resolve on your own to that point. Several options for representation were discussed, and the firm began work only according to your approval and instruction. After providing you with the necessary and appropriate research and legal arguments (which indeed confirmed your own research and suspicions), and after several communications with the respective parties and their legal counsel, it was then discovered that you had decided to terminate our relationship by simply leaving a derogatory note with office staff, instead of reaching out to discuss any issues personally. Resultingly, the firm was unable to resolve the issues you have experienced. I understand that nobody wants a negative or dissatisfactory outcome from their case. What I want more than anything is to address your issues and concerns to ensure that nothing like this occurs again. I am more than happy to discuss this issue with you further, in a more private forum, to see if this issue can be resolved to your satisfaction. Please call the office as soon as possible so that we can discuss your grievances and come to a resolution. I will do everything I can to make this right.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
