H. Scott Jacobson Jr

For more than 17 years, Scott has poured his blood, sweat, and what little hair was left into representing his clients inside and outside of Utah’s courtrooms.  Scott is an avid sports fan and brings an extremely competitive spirit to his legal work, but also prides himself on finding creative solutions for his clients in those cases where a fight to the bitter end isn’t in the best interests of his clients.

Over the course of his career as a litigator, Scott has represented manufacturers and retailers of various products including construction tools and equipment, automobiles and automotive parts, fire suppression systems, and many others.  He has represented contractors and drivers in personal injury and property damage cases.  He has defended restaurants and retailers against customer claims. He has successfully navigated the complex world of asbestos litigation, having defended various equipment and vehicle manufacturers and several local retailers and contractors.

Scott recognizes that courtrooms, judges, juries, discovery, depositions and opposing counsel can be intimidating and confusing for even the brightest and best clients who are not accustomed to playing in these foreign arenas.  He enjoys being able to learn from his clients about their products, businesses and professions, and then doing everything he can to protect those valuable assets while guiding his clients through the often unpleasant maze of litigation with as little pain and suffering as possible.  Scott knows the ins and outs of the courtroom, having tried cases in Utah’s state and federal courts, and having represented clients in the Utah Court of Appeals, Utah Supreme Court, and 10th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals.  While every case has the potential to end up being decided in a courtroom, most cases never make it that far, and Scott is always looking for alternative solutions that best meet the needs of his clients. He has resolved numerous cases in mediations, arbitrations, and creative settlements that best served all parties involved.  For those businesses that prefer to avoid litigation altogether or be better prepared for it when it comes, Scott can assist you in reviewing and revising contracts, warranties, warning labels, insurance policies, and other tools designed to protect your business.

When not working, and yes he does like to get away from the office on occasion, there is a pretty good chance you’ll find Scott in the bleachers at a ball field, gymnasium, or finish line cheering on one of his four kids, his wife, or his favorite team.  He may not look like much, and his body constantly reminds him that his playing days are behind him, but he’s always looking for something to stoke those competitive juices.
