Estate Planning, to include: advising client objectives to match client needs with client goals (irrespective of financial resources within the client’s family); Use of trusts, corporations, limited partnerships, and limited liability companies in order to meet client goals; selection of offshore structures and jurisdictions that maximize liability protection for clients in professions facing high litigation exposure; charitable planning with all types of charitable trusts and foundations
Mr. Buckley has been the U.S. corporate counsel for several overseas companies in diverse industries. Mr. Buckley has consulted for numerous U.S. and foreign companies, including manufacturing, technology, and medical companies. Additionally, he gained experience in business management while leading a technology company on the East Coast for ten months as an interim President. As a result, he understands the personnel issues, cost-benefit analysis and risk assessment which business people face
Mr. Buckley learned about international business when he started an international consulting company providing services to clients seeking to do business overseas.
As an officer in a foreign company, he negotiated agreements with U.S. and British companies on behalf of his foreign principals.
This unique perspective on the foreign legal environment provides a value that few attorneys can offer to clients…the ability to view transactions from a foreign legal perspective.
“We take money from the IRS legally, ethically, appropriately and fairly”, John Buckley says with a grin. “We love our jobs.” John is a counselor at law with Buckley Law, a boutique law practice specializing in estate, business and asset protection planning. Buckley Law does business throughout the state of Colorado. His wife Melinda is the firm's legal administrator.
Buckley Law is unique. All of its employees own other businesses, and that’s how they approach client business issues. Buckley flew fighters after graduation from the USAF Academy. He attended Harvard Law (he admits he knew the President there). To satisfy his adventurous spirit, he practiced international law and did business throughout the Arab Gulf from 1991 until 1995. “I did well”, John says, “and afterward returned to Colorado Springs, where I felt most at home.”
Buckley offers a free hour consult for most prospective clients. Afterward, he develops a plan to meet the client’s goals, whether they be protecting a family business or preserving the client’s estate. This process often allows Buckley Law to bill its work at a set fee rather than hourly.
“We are a high touch, low volume law practice,” says Buckley. “We care about our clients. We bring unique skills, we work hard to serve them, and our clients thank us for this way of doing business.”
