Excellent and dedicated Attorney who genuinely cares for his clients.

I was a well-regarded psychiatry and pain management specialist with a flourishing practice in Oklahoma City. I am married and father of two school aged children. It is a well-known fact that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has launched a brutal war against pain doctors. Over the past decad...e, they have imprisoned or destroyed several thousands of innocent doctors. The only crime of these doctors- treatment of chronic pain patients with FDA approved narcotic analgesics. I am 100 percent innocent but is one such unfortunate victim. I was indicted on 53 counts of illegal distribution of controlled medications including five overdose deaths. The penalty included five life sentences. The feds have overwhelming supremacy and a 93 percent conviction rate. My family and I faced total catastrophe and were devastated. My pretrial motions, handled by my first attorneys, ended on a very dismal note. The prospect of spending the rest of my life in prison appeared to be a certainty. There was darkness and despair everywhere and we simply did not know where to look. At this stage, we were introduced to Mr. David L. Owen Jr., a criminal defense lawyer from Highlands Ranch, CO. In a span of only six weeks, Dave turned things around, working diligently and purposefully. He organized a superb defense team, selecting and coordinating eminent medical experts. He came and stayed in Oklahoma City for a whole month and poured his heart and soul into my case, almost as if he was working on a family member's case. He meticulously selected defense witnesses. Although not lawyers, we were very impressed by Dave's encyclopedic legal knowledge and acumen. Dave's performance during the trial was masterly and beyond that of any other lawyer I have encountered. All our friends who attended the proceedings were also full of praise for him. Dave worked day and night to hone my skills and as a result, my performance on the witness stand was remarkable. Every morning, when I left for court, I was not sure whether I was leaving my family permanently. Thanks to Dave's eloquence, mastery of the law and trial skills, he was able to point out errors in the prosecution's case, effectively destroying the credibility of the government's witnesses and induced doubts in the jury resulting in a hung jury and mistrial being declared. The prosecution finally realized the strength of my innocence and were considering dismissing the charges. The DEA nevertheless was intent on drawing my blood. The prosecution brought in superseding information of Medicaid fraud related to upcoding of some visits and offered a deal of pleading guilty to one Medicaid count and in return, dismissal of all drug charges. Facing a potential life term if the drug charges were reopened, I accepted this deal. Under intense DEA pressure, the prosecution pressed hard for upward departure but Dave convinced the judge to keep the sentence within the guidelines. Furthermore, the Feds were recommending restitution of $1,71,000 but Dave knew the law well and had it reduced to only $92. He also had the lis pendens on our house lifted. These steps averted a financial disaster as my family is hard pressed for funds. Dave is truly a brilliant lawyer and second to none in the legal profession. More importantly, he is a very compassionate and fine human being. He provided us cogent moral support and encouragement thru those dark days. Knowing our financial hardship, he charged us a nominal amount, just a fraction of what a professional of his caliber is entitled to. Today, I am free with my family. No words of thanks are enough for what Dave has done for my family and me. He was a Godsend. Until our last breath, we all are indebted to Dave. And we say this with all our heart. A good doctor or a good lawyer can render invaluable service to their community. In this respect, Colorado is lucky to have Dave. Dr. Amar & Family
