Katie focuses her practice on civil and commercial litigation. She is an experienced case manager who has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a range of matters filed in federal courts across the country. Most recently, Katie has worked on matters involving business litigation issues such as unfair competition and protection of trade secrets. She works well in the demanding and fast pace of emergency proceedings which are oftentimes necessary when a business is threatened with unfair competition. Katie has also practiced extensively in the area of mortgage industry litigation. These matters involve loan repurchase claims against originators who sold predatory and defective home loans. The firm’s mortgage industry cases require an involved understanding of home loans and the practices of the businesses who service mortgage loans. Katie’s legal abilities and professionalism were recognized by Law Week Colorado when she was named a Finalist for their Up-and-Coming Lawyers list in 2011.
Katie volunteers her time to an active pro bono practice and community service. She recently served as Special Counsel to the state Public Defenders Office and in that capacity represented a Defendant in the Denver County Court. Katie regularly serves as a mentor for young law students who work at the firm in the summer associate program. She also volunteers outside of the legal field as an alumni interviewer for local high school students who have applied to Brown University.
During law school, Katie interned for the Hon. Nancy E. Rice of the Colorado Supreme Court and the Hon. Larry J. Naves in the Second Judicial District of Colorado. In these positions, she gained valuable research and writing experience as well as exposure to diverse areas of civil and criminal law.
Katie holds her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where she was a general editor and published author on the Denver University Law Review, and a student attorney in the Student Law Office Civil Litigation Clinic. She received her undergraduate degree in political science from Brown University, where she was a staff reporter for the Brown Daily Herald.
