Do I still need to file an answer to my summons for credit card debt if I called their lawyer & settled?

You should have instructions on how to file an answer on or in the summons. Regardless go to the court and file an answer if you have any doubt...
In a chapter 7, what if disposable income is high enough to possibly force a 13 but low enough not to cover liquidation value?

I agree chater 7 trustees are not liable to force conversions, but you also have the United States Trustee in your district policing whether cases...

You say you filed a response but then heard nothing further? If you filed an answer to the complaint the case should have been scheduled for trial....
