A planner and protector by nature, I enjoy helping clients whether they are planning their family's future and their own retirement or trying to determine the best option in the midst of a family medical crisis. Either way, everything I do is about connecting with my clients and helping them achieve some peace of mind.
I grew up in the Dallas, Texas area, and went to law school at the University of Utah. During law school, I volunteered with the Senior Law Project at Utah Legal Services and served as a judicial intern for Administrative Law Judge Harvey Sweitzer at the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Hearings and Appeals - Probate Hearings Division. I also worked as a graduate research assistant to Professor Lee Hollaar at the University of Utah, for whom I reviewed and edited the intellectual property treatise, “Legal Protection of Digital Information” (BNA Books, 2002).
I practiced in Texas for several years, where I was regularly appointed by the Dallas County Probate Courts as an attorney ad litem in both guardianship and probate matters. I moved to Colorado in early 2009, and joined a small elder law firm. I'm now Senior Counsel and the Managing Member of Smith & Mitchell, LLC.

Always Prepared!
Michelle went above and beyond what was required during the application/determination process of obtaining Medicaid for my parents. The determination took over a year and despite this long time frame, Michelle continued to be current with the case. She was professional, knowlegeable, and courteous ...

Michelle was extremely courteous, knowledgeable and helpful in the preparation of all the paperwork and communications with the Colorado Medicaid agencies involved with getting my wife admitted to a nursing home. "Michelle is a former employee of my firm and I found her to be dedicated, intelligent and very client-oriented. I would recommend her for anyone needing a good guardianship, conservatorship or estate planning attorney."
