Brown v. City of New York
Jul 16, 2010OUTCOME: City's settlement offer before trial was $ 200K. After my use of visual proof and summations the offer went up to $ 550K, which we accepted. This case was featured in New York Magazine for the $-recovery that was obtained in an intentional tort case.
Plaintiff, an adult black male, was a passenger in a ‘gypsy cab’ taking him home late at night when a collision occurred. Police, at the scene, believed that the cab was stolen. They forcibly removed p ... laintiff from the cab, threw him to the ground and gave him a beating. Subsequently there were four operations for an injury to his knee. During trial I used PowerPoint to present graphic proof of the nature and cost of past treatment; and of a future knee replacement.
