I decided to become a lawyer to continue a family legacy of advocating and fighting for people's rights. Raised by a family of soldiers that served our country honorably as officers in the Army, firefighters in the AirForce, and school teachers that instilled the value of education, I gained a strong sense of civic duty and responsibiltiy.  As a kid, I watched my grandfather advocate for people with disabilities; for the passage of the Americans with Disablities Act, that of which he later attended the signing of at the White House.  El Paso recognized him as a civil right's hero for his dedication and sacrifice.  That inspired me to help make a difference in people's lives.  

I knew before I applied to law school that I wanted to be a trial lawyer and fight for people's rights in the courtroom.  As a law student, I had the privilege of sitting in my uncle's district courtroom in Houston, Texas, where I learned from watching the best attorneys in Texas try cases.  Most importantly, observing my uncle as a judge in his courtroom, watching how he treated everyone with dignity and respect, provided me with a great appreciation for fairness and compassion  towards people involved in the legal system.  My mother, however, taught me the most about love, empathy, and compassion.  I wouldn't be where I am today without her.

I've dedicated my life to helping make a differnce in other people's lives. That's what my family has done for the last century.  Affecting change in another person's life by protecting their rights, and standing up for what is right requires much sacrifice, but the reward is priceless.  I'm proud to continue the sacrifice and legacy of my family.  Nobody said it better than the late, Martin Luther King, Jr., "Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passioinate concern of dedicated individuals."
