Ok, then awful

He did an ok job at first, but although I was the one who brought the suit against my ex, yet he let his lawyer do all the paperwork. In the beginning, he was responsive; however, as time went on, he just flat out stopped responding to the things I REALLY needed, and even I offered to bring more mone...y. The problem is that he tries to do all the work himself, but doesn’t have the time to handle everything. If he was in a firm or had a paralegal or two, his business would be better, and he would likely be a better lawyer. Not anything to write home about, but better nonetheless. So, hear me on this: get a real, certified family law (or whatever because he doesn’t concentrate on one particular thing—he takes what he gets) at the EXACT SAME COST. No lie. He charges what a certified lawyer charges. And they have people who help them to free them up when something really critical comes up. AND, it’s amazing how much more they know. That is HUGE. Trust me... I’ve been through 3 lawyers in 17 years. My first, amazing family law certified lawyer retired. I hired Mr Huckabay because of the good reviews a few years ago, but he stopped responding. I went back to a certified attorney, and OMG, it’s so much better. I forgot what I was missing. Just the knowledge, the ability to be realistic, yet get what is fair, everything... Do yourself a favor and go with someone else. I’m a normal, everyday mom with an a$$ of an ex, it’s been going on for YEARS, so I know.

Red flag: plays "stupid"

Probono. Unethical conduct: did not keep word in court while accepting referrals from opposing party. Misplaced client's trust, did not come prepared for court, & favored opposing party interest. Did not act in due diligence/competence & instead have been accepting paid referrals from opposing party'...s coworkers to act in opposing party interest including: refusing to have attorney-client contract drafted/signed, advising against requesting a child support review upon discovery of significant increase in income, not protecting us from harrassment/abuse, not filing/refusing to file contempt against other party for violations of orders including missing parenting classes/visitations/notifications/medical care, not negotiating child support with opposing attorney to be entered in temporary orders & at mediation, filing final orders without child support modification/retro included, not requesting psych eval, giving up on discovery, not addressing domestic violence in final orders, & failure to subpoena tax returns/phone records/witnesses/medical records. Violation of Texas Lawyer's Creed by not utilizing utility & all available means & violated probono by accepting indirect compensation in exchange for lessened diligence & not following court procedure for discovery before final hearing. Cost us nearly 9k in retro child support and did not address safety/protection in final order. Daughter's future, our future, was to start being rectified with this case, instead, the rug got pulled out from under us again so he could "pay the bills" eventhough he is the one that dragged out litigation to keep child support low for opposing client. Hope this helps someone avoid our suffering for past year & half.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
