A family violence finding follows you well past the case: firearms, housing and professional licenses. I treat the collateral consequences as part of the defense, not an afterthought.
Search and seizure decides more drug cases than the lab does. I start with how the police got into the car, the house or the phone.
These cases can and should be handled very differently from adult court, and it starts with getting to know the juvenile and the family. Kids make mistakes. My job is keeping those mistakes from following them into adult life.
These cases are won or lost on the details of the outcry, the forensic interview and the timeline. I go through all three before anyone talks about a plea.
