Biography
Former chair of the School Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Graduated with top 10% honors (Magna Cum Laude now) from LSU Law School in 1985. Admitted into LSU Law School Hall of Fame. Two years practice of insurance defense with Mehaffy, Weber in Beaumont. Main practice is representing school districts, including in litigation and insurance defense. Admitted and practiced in all four federal district courts in Texas, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Has tried about 30 cases split evenly between federal courts, state courts and the Commissioner of Education. Also handled about 30 appeals, 14 in state court, 16 to Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and filed amicus brief with United States Supreme Court and attended arguments on school prayer at football games case (Doe v Santa Fe ISD). Presented lectures and taught school law classes at University of Texas, Texas A & M University, Sull Ross University, Univeresity of Houston and many others, including many education associations.
