I agree. A civil suit is also a long shot because it can be a difficult standard to prove in terms of a malicious prosecution suit.

12 months in state jail seems harsh under the circumstances. Even if you were convicted at trial you would be eligible for probation.

It can't/shouldn't be used against you legally speaking but the charge and arrest could still appear on a criminal background search.
