Best Lawyer Ever!

When I was looking for a lawyer to replace a particularly awful one I had, I reached out to various community forums on the internet to get recommendations and advice from people who had experience with hiring lawyers in the area. Almost every comment said something along the lines of "Don't hire (na...me), he/she was awful" or "I hated working with (name), he/she didn't do anything to help me with my case". Just about every lawyer in San Antonio was being bashed and complained about (in very colorful, descriptive language!) on that forum. Soon, a few comments from happy clients started trickling in...When I read the comments about these lawyers, I saw every single one of them was about James Peterson. He was literally the only lawyer in town that anyone had good things to say about. His previous clients had absolutely no complaints about him and they all raved about how wonderful he was. I knew I had to have him. I called him the next day and...HE ANSWERED THE PHONE! An absolute miracle in the client-lawyer world...I hired him right away after meeting him in person and he finished(and won!) my case in a matter of a few short weeks. My previous lawyer had been working on it for over a year and had never even served the other party...Mr Peterson returned all my calls within 24 hours, answered all my questions and was patient with my lack of knowledge about how the court system works. I appreciated the fact that he took the time to come up with multiple solutions to any problems that arose and made recommendations that were truly centered around the best interest of me and my child. His prices were very affordable, especially for somebody with so much experience and expertise in his field. And his calm, collected demeanor took the stress out of dealing with the court system.

Lack of experience

Mr. Peterson was hired to handle a complicated custody case, to where the mother could not be located in another state. He was hired in good faith that he could handle the case that needed to be handled. I can remember the day in court, like it was yesterday. I was forced to pay one of his colleagues... to represent the mother who was not present. During this time, he had the court sign the document stating that I now had custody of my son and child support in the state of Arizona was to change to what Mr.Peterson stated in the court document. After presenting the documents to the State of Arizona the Attorney General and courts refused to recognize the documents because Mr.Peterson did not follow proper protocol and request jurisdiction from the State of Arizona since that's where the original order was created. I am now in debt over 100K in child support arrears and have had thousands garnished from my pay checks for a child that I raised from early childhood till he was 18. Although, I have done my research with local Texas Lawyers and Arizona Lawyers Mr.Peterson continues to deny that anything was done wrong. I would think hiring a colleague to represent my Ex should of been the first sign while under his advice, but I was eager to get the case done and was trusting the lawyer. I recently have reached to Mr.Peterson in good faith that he would take the right approach to fix his mistakes, and have had no response. I will be filing a complaint to the State Bar for his unprofessional practices and seeking representation to recover my losses and damages for the money paid for services that were not done appropriately. If you need a great family Lawyer I used Valerie Alonzo for Custody of my daughter and I highly recommend her services. Thank You

"George" 's statements are untrue and he failed to follow my advise. The Texas Rules of Civil Procedure require that when a person is notified of a law suit by publication in a newspaper (as in this case), an attorney ad litum must be appointed to represent the absent party. That is why "George" had to pay another attorney besides me. I would explain how "George" failed to follow my advise and why he is the cause of his own problems, but he has not given me permission to share these facts and it would violate my sense of ethics and the State Bar Rules to do so without his permission. In 30 years of practicing law I have never been found to violate the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
