Lisa Dianne Duke

I am extremely disappointed with Lisa Duke and the way she has handled her role as amicus attorney in our custody case. Ironically, WE were the ones who requested an amicus be appointed, while the opposing party strongly objected. We genuinely wanted someone impartial who would listen to the child...ren, consider all the facts, and advocate for their best interests. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience. During court proceedings, Ms. Duke cross-examined my husband so aggressively and one-sidedly that you would have thought she was representing the opposing party. From what I witnessed, she seemed more interested in discrediting him than presenting a fair and accurate picture of the circumstances, including information one of the children had shared with her. What bothers me even more is that the child herself said she didn't feel like Ms. Duke even listened to her. How can someone entrusted with advocating for a child's best interests leave that same child feeling like her thoughts and feelings didn't matter? We also have serious concerns about her sharing information about our household with the opposing party and what we believe was a failure to provide relevant information equally to both attorneys. The way these matters were handled left us questioning her professionalism, transparency, and impartiality. I understand that an amicus attorney isn't supposed to take either parent's side, nor did I ever expect her to agree with us simply because we requested her appointment. What I did expect was fairness, objectivity, and a genuine commitment to the CHILDREN, especially when their emotional well-being and futures are at stake. Instead, our experience has left us with serious concerns about how Ms. Duke has approached her responsibilities. The fact that a child felt unheard by the very person appointed to advocate for her interests is particularly troubling. Based on what I've personally witnessed and experienced, I would not recommend Lisa Duke, and I sincerely hope other families have a better experience than we have.

Lisa was not aggressive with follow-up. After retaining her services we reached a mediated settlement, went to court, and "completed" the divorce very professionally. Ten months later and several changes (not agreed to in mediation) inserted by the other attorney, I finally received the executed di...vorce paperwork.
