Daniel Ruben Gutierrez

Daniel Gutierrez is a San Antonio criminal defense lawyer and Senior Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys. A San Antonio native, former Bexar County prosecutor, and United States Marine Corps veteran, he brings military discipline, prosecutorial insight, and extensive local courtroom experience to every case he handles.

Before entering private practice, Daniel spent more than seven years as an Assistant District Attorney with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. He prosecuted a wide range of misdemeanor and felony cases, gaining firsthand knowledge of how the government investigates allegations, evaluates evidence, files charges, negotiates resolutions, and prepares cases for trial. He now uses that experience to identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s case and develop defenses tailored to each client’s circumstances.

Daniel began his professional career at age 18 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During five years of service, he worked as an Air Traffic Controller and served as a Marine Sergeant, Non-Commissioned Officer, and Training Coordinator. These roles demanded precision, accountability, leadership, and sound decision-making under pressure, qualities that continue to shape his approach to criminal defense.

After completing his military service, Daniel returned to San Antonio and used his GI Bill benefits to pursue his education. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in two and a half years and later completed law school in another two and a half years. While in law school, he gained experience with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, the 437th Criminal District Court, the United States Attorney’s Office, and the San Antonio City Attorney’s Office. He also served as a Research Fellow for the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary’s University School of Law.

Today, Daniel represents clients accused of DWI, assault, domestic violence, drug crimes, theft, weapons offenses, probation violations, and other misdemeanor and felony charges throughout Bexar, Comal, and Atascosa counties. He helps clients understand the allegations, the evidence, and their available options while building strategic defenses focused on protecting their rights, freedom, and future.
