Tonja Coleman

Tonja Coleman is an experienced family law attorney at The Knowlton Law Firm, serving clients across Austin, San Antonio, and Williamson County. With more than 20 years of legal experience spanning family law and criminal litigation, Tonja brings both legal precision and deep compassion to families navigating divorce, custody disputes, and other sensitive family law matters.

Before joining the firm, Tonja served as a Misdemeanor Prosecutor with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, where her work focused extensively on family violence cases. She appeared in court daily, managed high-volume dockets, and served as first or second chair in numerous jury trials. In that role, Tonja worked closely with victims, law enforcement, and witnesses—preparing cases, arguing motions, and advocating for justice with care, strength, and attention to detail.

Prior to her prosecutorial work, Tonja practiced family law at Watts Legal Firm, PLLC, a respected San Antonio firm. There, she handled a wide range of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and property division, and regularly represented clients in hearings and mediations. Her work included drafting pleadings, agreements, and court filings essential to achieving favorable outcomes for her clients.
Tonja’s career is built on a strong foundation of hands-on legal experience. Before becoming an attorney, she spent many years working as a paralegal and legal assistant, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the legal process from intake through resolution. Her background includes child support enforcement, bankruptcy matters, client advocacy, and case development, as well as long-term service with the Texas Office of the Attorney General and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
