OUTCOME: Moon Rock Forfeited to United States and Returned to Honduras

In 1998 Joseph Gutheinz, as a Senior Special Agent with NASA Office of Inspector General, created an undercover sting operation known as Operation Lunar Eclipse and brought in a United States Postal In ... spector and two U.S. Customs Agents to form his team. Around that nucleus he and his team created history by recovering the Honduras Apollo 17 Goodwill Moon Rock, the first of its kind sting operation. The asking price for the moon rocks was 5 million dollars. Gutheinz went undercover and assumed the undercover identity of Tony Coriasso. After a nearly five year forfeiture case the United States Government won title to the Honduras Goodwill Moon Rock and subsequently returned in to the President of Honduras.

From 1996 until 2000 Joseph Gutheinz, as a Senior Special Agent for NASA’s Office of Inspector General, led a multi-agency task force investigation, first against Rockwell Space Operation’s Company, an ... d then its successor’s in interest, Boeing North America and United Space Alliance. The investigations centered on false claims Rockwell Space Operations Company was passing on to NASA. On January 11, 2000 the Department of Justice sued Boeing North America ,United Space Alliance as well and Rockwell International and within months of the lawsuit being filed both Boeing North America and United Space Alliance paid the United States government a sum of money in excess of 2 million dollars, in order to settle the case.
