Richard J. Douglas

Richard J. Douglas is a seasoned attorney born at the U.S. Army Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.  He has been a licensed member of the bar in four states, including Texas, and three federal courts.

Among his accomplishments as a practicing lawyer, Douglas counts his pro bono contribution to the defense of the Bladensburg (Maryland) World War One Memorial Peace Cross as the most significant. In that case, which eventually reached the US Supreme Court, Douglas and ten of his Maryland neighbors were first in the nation to file an amicus curiae brief (US District Court/Maryland) in defense of the Memorial.

Richard Douglas believes in American civic traditions and appreciates the sacrifices made at their foundations.  In addition to many years in private law practice, Douglas has experience in the U.S. Senate, the Pentagon, the Justice Department and the Foreign Service.  Douglas speaks Spanish fluently.  He has volunteered for a Baltimore mission to seafarers and as a lay chaplain working with Spanish-speaking inmates at the Washington DC jail.  Douglas has also held a First Grade Stationary Engineer license and EMT/Ambulance certification in Maryland.

Mr. Douglas and his wife, a Mexico City native, reside near Houston, Texas.  One daughter is studying in San Antonio and two sons are on active duty in the U.S. armed forces: one in the US Navy, and one in the Texas Army National Guard. Douglas is also a Navy veteran, with service in Iraq and submarines.
