Biography
After leaving the District Attorney’s Office in 2006, Damico went into private practice where he used his experience as a prosecutor to defend citizens accused of wrongdoings. Damico routinely represents clients in both Harris and Montgomery County. As a criminal defense attorney, Damico represents cases ranging from a simple traffic ticket to Capital Murder. The trial skills learned as a prosecutor are vigorously used to defend his current clients. His record has proven that “experience matters” when dealing with the law and your loved one.
Paul was raised nearby and graduated from Klein High School in 1993 before earning his Criminal Justice Degree from Texas State University in 1999. He gained valuable felony court experience working as a legal intern in the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office in the 399th District Court while pursuing law at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio. He earned his law degree in 2001 and was later admitted to the Texas bar in May 2002.
Damico worked for the Harris County District Attorney for four years as an Assistant District Attorney. Beginning as a misdemeanor prosecutor, he was lead prosecutor litigating jury trials, from cases of DWI to assault, theft, and possession of a controlled substance. Later promoted to a Family Violence prosecutor, Damico pursued a specialized caseload consisting of assault-family cases and violations of a protective order. He quickly ascended to the felony courts, where he oversaw prosecuting felony cases and tried varied criminal cases including aggravated assault, burglary of a habitation, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and family violence. Damico was then promoted to the Misdemeanor Chief position where he ran a misdemeanor court while simultaneously supervising and training young prosecutors.
In 2010, Paul was appointed County Magistrate by the Montgomery County Board of Judges. As Magistrate, he was the presiding officer over the probable cause docket where he reviewed probable cause statements and set bonds on anyone arrested in Montgomery County. After the probable cause docket, he ran the Office of Indigent Defense and helped create the Office of Court Administration. Damico was soon promoted to Criminal Associate Judge in Montgomery County where he ran misdemeanor and felony dockets each afternoon in addition to presiding over the probable cause docket. While running criminal dockets, Associate Judge Damico’s duties included accepting or rejecting pleas, motions to suppress, motions to revoke/adjudicate probation, and conducting juvenile detention hearings.
