also known as Juanita A. Jackson, Juanita Jackson (Barner)
Juanita Jackson is a proud product of Houston public schools. She attended Madison High School where she excelled academically and socially. After graduating with honors as the senior class officer, Juanita attended the University of Alabama.
While at the University of Alabama, Juanita was very active in the Black Student Union and the Residential Life Association, receiving numerous awards and accolades. Juanita developed her leadership and management skills by being a Resident Advisor. After completing her BA in Criminal Justice, Juanita began graduate school and became the very first black graduate hall director of a historic residence hall at the once infamously segregated University. Juanita was quickly promoted to a staff position as Coordinator of Residential Life overseeing the day-to-day operations and the entire management of the largest residential area of the University.
In 1992, Juanita was hired by the University of Houston as Coordinator of Residential life to manage their largest Residential area. After a few years at UH, Juanita decided to leave her career in higher education to attend law school. While in law school, Juanita juggled being a wife and mother while working multiple jobs to support her family.
Upon graduation from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Juanita accepted a position as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. After a few years with the state agency, in 2001 Juanita opened her law firm. With steady determination and hard work, her law practice began to prosper and Juanita became a well-respected fixture in the Harris County criminal courts. In 2010, Juanita made an unsuccessful run on the Democratic ticket for a criminal court judge. The following year, she was asked to join the newly-formed Harris County Public Defender’s office.
For five years, as Assistant Public Defender for the felony trial division, Juanita represented indigent citizens who were charged with serious crimes. Juanita now runs her own law firm, The Jackson Law Group specializing in criminal defense and personal injury. Juanita is truly dedicated to protecting and defending the rights of people entangled in the justice system.
Most recently the public has come to know Juanita as the creator, producer, and on the cast of WEtv’s network series “Sisters in Law”. It was a reality series/ docu-drama chronicling the day to day lives of 6 powerful Houston female attorneys.

Fighter to the end
I mean, she gets the job done. No holds are barred, she got things done, other attorneys said they could not get done. Her grace is extraordinary and when she talks, people listen. Thank you God for Juanita.
"I endorse this lawyer. Without question, Juanita is the epitome of class and competent advocacy. She has the genes and experience to stand before the state in any circumstance. She is a leader in community and continues to build her legacy by guiding all who are honored to know her and her practice."
"Brilliant and hard-working is the best way to describe this tenacious lawyer. I have had the opportunity to discuss, work with and guage her trial skills. She was on the National Mock Trial Team during law school. She is in NACDL, Criminal Trial Lawyers Association as well as a host of other Criminal Defense Associations. She is regarded in the legal community as a dynamic attorney. For these reasons I endorse her."
