Judith A. Brokaw

I was referred to Judith Brokaw through Arag Legal Insurance for phone consultation. After making an appointment in the morning and calling them back at the agreed upon time in the afternoon, I was finally put in touch with Judith. I needed advice in regards to suing my landlord for the return of ...my security deposit. I was told by her assistant to have all relevant paperwork ready for when I spoke to an attorney so I had everything in front of me while on the phone with her. Her answer to several of my questions was"Well, it depends what your lease says", however, when I tried to look at my lease, she would say "We(meaning she) don't have time for you to look at it right now" She obviously could not get off of the phone fast enough and made it seem like I was wasting her precious time even though I had scheduled this consultation ahead of time at the time they told me. The worst part was when I asked if the court could make my landlord pay for damages in excess of the amount of my security deposit if he unlawfully withheld my deposit, she told me the answer was No. I then found the section in the Texas property code (sec 92.109) which says that the answer is Yes! This "lawyer" should find a different line of work.

This attorney, breached the contract that we had come to agreement with, by stating that she was not willing to represent me anymore. The defendant approached her and sought to discreetly suspend the lawsuit by bribing her, in which I was not aware of. Moreover, due to this bribery she refused to r...epresent me to any further extent. This attorney kept all of the settlement money to herself, instead of returning it to me the rightful proprietor. In addition to this embezzlement of funds, she as well as her assistant was discourteous and impolite throughout the end of the representation. The attorney did not provide the information about the settlement even though I requested it several times. It was not until a month later after the suspension of the case that she delivered the information. Based on this, my family was deprived of gifts this Christmas holidays.
