You can use AP to travel and can still keep valid H-1B status. If you use EAD, your lose your H-1B status and become AOS.

Another company can apply for a H-1B for you. If it is approved, your L-1B ends when your H-1B starts.

You can file your H-1B renew application 6 months before your current H-1b expires, and you should renew your H-1b.
