You are talking about a domestic support obligation (DSO) and a bankruptcy does not overrule a DSO. If this is deemed a DSO, then it is not...

If it is 20 years old, do not pay. There is a statute of limitations defense and I can't imagine American General is actually sending the notice....

You can pull a credit report. In my office, we pull one on all clients. It is the least due diligence we can do.
