I want to retire. If I file for bankruptcy, what assets are fair game for my creditors? I live in Michigan.

You need to research exempt property. If everything is exempt, then you are good to go. If much would be sold, best to sell now and move to Texas.

You have to get permission of the court to do this. I can say as an attorney who works in this district, the odds are not in your favor.

Yes, they can go after only one, although you may be able to enjoin your roommate and stay the proceedings based on his service in the military.
