Biography
Gwen E. Richard is a dynamic trial attorney with over 25 years of experience successfully representing companies and individuals in state and federal court. She has tried dozens of cases to verdict and earned Board Certification from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law. Whether representing plaintiffs or defendants, Gwen is distinguished by her robust case assessments and risk evaluations, her nimble approach to trial strategy, and her ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues. Gwen thrives in a courtroom, and her deliberate, authentic style of advocacy has proven compelling for both judges and juries.
Representing Halliburton in the BP Macondo case, Gwen managed Phase Two of the case, which addressed events between the time of the blowout until the well was shut-in. In the BP case and others, Gwen’s defense clients have benefited from the strategic insight she honed during two decades as a go-to plaintiffs’ attorney on challenging matters.
Gwen has a strong track record of professional leadership and civic service. She has served as Vice Chair of the Houston Bar Foundation and as President of both the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and the Houston Trial Lawyers Foundation. Gwen has also been an elected member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) since 2003 and currently serves as an ABOTA National Board Representative, Houston Chapter Secretary/Treasurer, and Houston Chapter Representative to the ABOTA Foundation. She has been rated AV "Preeminent" by Martindale-Hubbell for over 15 years and has been honored annually since 2006 by Thomson Reuters as a Texas Super Lawyer. A graduate of Rice University and the University of Houston Law School, Gwen also holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from the University of London, Kings College.
