Mithoff Law is regarded as one of the country’s premier litigation firms.
Founded by high-profile trial lawyer Richard Warren Mithoff in 1984, the firm is sought out by a broad range of clients, ranging from families devastated by serious injury or loss of life to Fortune 500 companies involved in complex commercial litigation.
Mithoff has been consistently rated by his peers among the top ten lawyers within the state and has been ranked by Forbes Magazine among the top ten trial attorneys in the country.
Having earned a national reputation in complex medical malpractice litigation, Mithoff has also represented clients in a wide cross-section of litigation. He defended J.P. Morgan Chase in the Enron securities fraud class action arising out of the largest bankruptcy ever filed up to that time; and currently represents the BP shareholders as co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs in the securities class action litigation arising out of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, the largest oil spill in history.
Mithoff represented families of seven elderly victims and was appointed lead liaison counsel for the families of all of the 23 elderly victims of the Hurricane Rita bus fire litigation. He was also lead counsel for five of the seven families suffering loss of life in the BP Texas City refinery fire and explosion, with each of the cases resulting in a multi-million dollar recovery.
Mithoff also represented Harris County in the tobacco litigation and served as co-lead counsel with other counsel for Texas counties in a multi-billion dollar recovery, the largest such recovery by individual counties in a single state in that litigation. He also currently represents the City of Houston in the LIBOR litigation.
Other high profile Mithoff clients have included the family of Americans aboard the Air France flight that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009; the Texas Heart Institute; the Houston Rockets; former San Diego Padres owner John Moores; the daughter and family of former Houston Oilers owner Bud Adams; ConocoPhillips; Chevron; Willie Nelson; and the Democratic Party.
Mithoff won the first product liability breast implant case; the first successful verdict against both Firestone and Sears in the defective tire litigation relating to the Firestone tire recall; and the first significant verdict in Texas against a hospital for negligence in the credentialing of a surgeon who was responsible for a botched surgery and brain injury to the patient.
