Jonathan D. Baughman

Jonathan Baughman chairs the firm's Oil & Gas Practice Group. He is an experienced lawyer who represents clients in a wide variety of civil litigation and arbitration with an emphasis on energy-related matters. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Baughman worked as a certified public accountant in the energy section for a major international public accounting firm and later as an internal auditor for a major natural gas pipeline company. With this experience, Jonathan brings a broad business background to his representation of clients in complex litigation ranging from oil and gas and energy-related disputes to real estate, construction, products liability and insurance disputes.

Jonathan's oil and gas litigation experience has included matters involving joint operating agreements, gas processing agreements, gas purchase contracts, leases, and surface issues. He has litigated a multitude of oil and gas issues related to title, lease covenants, implied and express covenants to pool, royalty payments, COPAS, reservoir damage, and well blowouts. Jonathan's other energy-related experience has involved power generation and distribution and natural gas trading disputes, among other issues. Mr. Baughman has written articles and spoken before the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, Louisiana Mineral Law Institute, American Association of Professional Landmen and other legal organizations. Mr. Baughman previously served as the Chair of the Oil & Gas Section of the Houston Bar Association for 2008-09. He is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. Jonathan has been recognized by Texas Law & Politics as a "Texas Rising Star" in energy and natural resources (2006-2007). Jonathan is also a member of the firm's Management Committee.
