Based on my experience, John Davis was unprofessional, hostile, and dismissive in communication

I was referred to KMD Law through my union's CLC legal benefit for a contract review related to my solar panel agreement. After a brief phone call with another attorney, I was told they would need to see my electric bills and that a detailed contract review and legal opinion would cost $500. I agreed... and submitted the requested documents promptly. After a length of time with little to no meaningful follow-up, I asked for a status update and received a vague suggestion that the firm “could send a demand letter” for an additional $1,000–$1,500 — but still no written legal opinion, no direct answers to my legal questions, and no formal explanation of what they had reviewed. In my opinion, I did not receive the legal clarity or communication that was promised or expected. After I questioned this, another attorney replied with a vague, three-line message that lacked any meaningful context or explanation, leaving me even more confused about what—if anything—had been done. After I raised concerns, John Davis, a managing partner who had never spoken with me directly before, inserted himself into the conversation. What followed, in my opinion, was an alarming series of hostile and unprofessional emails that showed a total lack of client care. Here are some direct quotes from Mr. Davis’s emails: "You are just disregarding, I suppose because you just don’t pay your bills?" "Did you want us to write a law school brief on this? 30 pages with case cites? A 50 page or 100 page freedom to operate opinion... Those things cost $5000, if not $25,000 or more." "You’re using a lot of big lawyer words, as though you are wanting to sound like you do this for a living. You don’t, and we do." "You’re the harasser here." "Being disappointed in our analysis or the eventual outcome of your situation is not KMD’s problem, just like if you were to appear in our hospital for an Xray and we have to tell you very bad news. You still pay for the Xray." To that last comment, I would simply say: I don’t feel like I got the X-ray — just the bill. I later consulted a different law firm, which took the time to review everything and clearly explain my legal options. KMD did none of this. I also filed a complaint with the State Bar — but unfortunately, competence and follow-through do not appear to fall under ethics rules. I share this review so others can be informed. Based on my experience, I would not recommend John Davis or KMD Law to anyone seeking respectful, transparent, or professional legal service.
