My partner's sister filed theft charges against me after my partner died. When I moved from her family home where we had lived together for many years, I took our bedroom suite, a love seat and a couple of tables. These were our things that were valued under $1000 by a used furniture specialist. B...ut this small town of 1200 people and TWENTY SIX cops, were quick to have a warrant sworn out - they believed the sister who lives in south Texas and had not been home in 25 years --and I was arrested at my home, my things were taken. Fortunately, I was released immediately but the judge advised I was facing Texas State prison time because they filed felony theft - $3000 to $30000 value. I am 70 years old and had been with my partner on and off over 55 years. I still work at a very responsible position in finance where I could have lost my job - my life as I know it. NONE of the local attorneys would even take my calls - except one. He wanted $1800 to discuss the case. Thru a website, I found Jessica who immediately told me not to worry, that I have no criminal history a jail term was probably out of the question (although she made it clear, she could not promise).
