Grace E. Shin

My interest in appeals began in law school, where a strong legal writing program and moot court competitions exposed me to the disciplines of brief writing and oral argument.

My first job after law school was in the Appellate Division of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, where my writing and advocacy skills were further built and refined. After almost two years, I left for the private sector to try my hand at civil ligation. But I eventually returned to the District Attorney’s Office to do what I love--criminal appeals.

My second stint as a prosecutor lasted almost twenty years. During that time, I wrote over 200 briefs on appeal, argued in both the Court of Appeals in Dallas and the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin, responded to countless post-conviction applications for writ of habeas corpus in the trial courts, and provided trial support and guidance to fellow prosecutors.

I now work with Niles Illich, who comes from a career on the defense side. We pick each other’s brains and act as sounding boards for each other to provide the best representation we can for our clients.
