• Austin worked as an electrical engineer for L-3 Communications, the 8th largest defense contractor in the world, where he helped design military aircraft systems.

• Austin worked as an engineer for the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where he helped develop and implement regulations for nuclear power plants in the United States.
