Daniel P. Garrigan

Dan Garrigan is a veteran litigator and legal expert in the areas of state and federal criminal defense, all areas of family law, civil litigation, and personal injury law. Additionally, he is a recognized expert and one of the pioneer practitioners in the field of recovery defense.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. degree in Accounting he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Bates College of Law.

Dan began practicing law in 1973 as an Assistant District Attorney for legendary Dallas District Attorney, Henry Wade, where he rose to the rank of chief felony prosecutor. During his 6 years as an ADA, he participated in more than 200 jury trials involving charges of capital murder, aggravated sexual abuse, aggravated robbery, burglary, theft, and numerous types of felony drug offenses.

Following his tenure with the District Attorney’s office Dan practiced civil litigation for three years specializing in insurance defense of personal injury cases before opening his own firm.​

His intimate knowledge of the criminal justice system coupled with his ability to translate complex matters of law and fact into easily understandable language for courts and juries gives his clients a distinct edge in the courtroom.​

Dan is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, and the Dallas Bar Association. He is a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and currently serves as a panel chair on the DBA Fee Disputes Committee.

He served three terms as chair of the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program, to which he was appointed by the president of the State Bar of Texas. He has also served as chair of the Dallas Bar Association's Transition to Law Practice Committee and chair of the Peer Assistance Committee. ​

He is a former president of Texas Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers and of Dallas Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers.

He was the 2017 recipient of the Ralph A. Mock Award from Texas Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers in recognition of his many years of assistance to impaired lawyers in Texas.

Dan has held numerous civic leadership positions including serving as chairman of the Dallas City Plan Commission and as a member of the City of Dallas Civil Service Commission. He is currently on the Advisory Council of the Dallas 24 Hour Club, a homeless shelter for men and women seeking a life of sobriety.

He lives in Dallas with his wife, Teddie. He is also kind to animals.
