Biography
Marlin attended school in Houston, graduating suma cum laude in 1975 from James Madison Senior High School. While in junior high and high school, Marlin was in band (playing French horn), where he met most of his lifelong friends.
He went to college at the University of Houston, and graduated cum laude in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. After working at several companies as an engineer and being granted a couple of patents, Marlin decided to go to law school to become a patent attorney. Marlin graduated cum laude from South Texas College of Law in 1990 and passed the patent bar exam in 1991.
More importantly, in 1985 Marlin was married to Janie Valle by his father in Garland, Texas. They soon moved to Houston and were blessed with two children, Jacquelyn and Jessica. After Marlin graduated from law school, the family moved to their current home near Poetry, Texas.
At present, Marlin has a patent law firm (Smith IP Services) at The Harbor in Rockwall, Texas. Janie and Marlin enjoy traveling, kayaking, camping, hiking and time spent with family and friends. Jacquelyn has blessed us with a handsome grandson, Waylon Ingle, and a beautiful granddaughter, Cheyenne Ingle. Life is sweet!
