Prevention
As an attorney, my mission is to 1) prevent “fires” by preventing conflicts, 2) resolve conflicts quickly when they are small and manageable, and 3) manage conflicts to a resolution that protects my client’s interest.
Preventing conflicts is almost always better than handling them later. Conflicts are time-consuming and emotionally draining. They distract owners from the main goal of their business and cause the business to suffer.
Agreements should:
1) Communicate clearly,
2) Set reasonable and fair expectations,
3) Provide an exit strategy, and
4) Comply with government regulations.
Clear and reasonable agreements build long-term relationships with customers, suppliers, landlords, tenants, and employees. Those long-term relationships can serve as the foundation for a successful business.
Responding to Conflicts – Early Intervention
When conflicts or claims occur, I work with the client to resolve the issue efficiently and respectfully. Representing clients effectively does not prevent me from treating opponents professionally. My client may have to work with those opponents in the future, so I am careful to not burn bridges. (My client may always choose to burn those bridges later if they decide that is in their best interest).
Philosophy – Who am I
I care about my clients.
I listen to my clients.
I can be firm and persistent with opponents, while also being respectful and professional.
Preparation is the key to success.
I work with my clients to find the best solution for their specific situation.
I have practiced law in Dallas, Texas since 1986. My practice is general. I am licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas and a member of the College of the State Bar, but am not certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
