Luciano N. Oliveira is the Managing Attorney of Navas Oliveira Advogados (also known as Oliveira Lawyers), a cross-border practice with offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis, and Brasília. He represents clients across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia whose business, family, or investment interests reach into Brazil and Portugal — guiding them through transactions and disputes that move between jurisdictions, languages, and legal traditions.
The firm's work spans the full lifecycle of cross-border activity: complex corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions; international tax planning and structuring; family office and private wealth advisory; foreign direct investment and Brazilian market entry; cross-border estate and succession planning; real estate acquisitions; international family law; and immigration. Mr. Oliveira's clients include multinational corporations, family offices, investment firms, and individuals whose affairs cross more than one set of borders.
His litigation experience reflects the same orientation. Mr. Oliveira has handled dozens of matters before the Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) — Brazil's principal forum for cross-border claims entering Brazilian jurisdiction — and earlier in his career he served as a litigator in Dallas, Texas. He is admitted to practice in Brazil (São Paulo and Distrito Federal sections of the OAB), the State of Texas, the State of California, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Mr. Oliveira's academic training reflects the business-and-legal lens he brings to client work. He earned his Bachelor of Laws (Bacharel em Direito) from the Universidade de São Paulo and a Bachelor's in Public Administration from EAESP at Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil's preeminent school of public policy and management. He completed an LL.M. in International Law at the Dedman School of Law of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and post-graduate programs in Immigration Law at PUC Minas Gerais and in Tax Law at IDP in Brasília.
Before building his current practice, Mr. Oliveira spent two decades as a senior business consultant, including engagements with KPMG and GV Consult, advising corporate clients on strategy, governance, and operations. He has worked in legal practice since 2004, and continues to draw on that parallel commercial background to translate complex legal questions into the operational and financial terms his clients use to make decisions.
Mr. Oliveira is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of International Law), the International Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the State Bar of California, the Conselho Federal of the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil, and its São Paulo and Distrito Federal sections. He has published in Brazilian newspapers, magazines, and academic journals on matters of international and domestic Brazilian law. He has also supported education and development work in Brazil, including past projects with Ação Comunitária do Brasil — one of the country's most respected social-development institutions — and continues to donate books directly to under-resourced schools in the State of Amazonas.
He works in Portuguese and English.
